Update from President Michael Dougherty

June 11, 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Great news! Earlier today the State Superintendent of Washington and the Department of Health released extensive guidance and protocols that will enable students to return to in-person instruction on-time this fall. School leadership has been awaiting this communication, and we are eager to move from planning for multiple scenarios to a more concrete vision for this fall. We are already working to integrate the required protocols for ensuring students’ health and safety into our planning for next year, and we will be in touch with you as soon as possible to communicate additional details regarding our academic and co-curricular programs.

As we begin this next phase of planning, I want to share with you our guiding priorities:

1) We will put students first through our commitment to offering a safe environment and a robust educational program that challenges and supports each student to strive towards their unique potential;

2) We will emphasize the importance of the transformative relationships that exist between teachers and students, and students and their classmates; and

3) We will continue to leverage technology, and the lessons that we have learned as a one-to-one computer school, in order to enhance classroom instruction and ensure the continuity of instruction in the face of any COVID related disruptions.

While we will undoubtedly face unforeseen challenges in the months to come, I am convinced that our greatest strength is our shared commitment to our Jesuit Catholic mission—it unites us, guides our decisions, and inspires our creativity and adaptability. Together, we serve the greater glory of God by providing an academically rigorous college-preparatory curriculum combined with life changing co-curricular programs that prepare our students to meet the challenges and opportunities of a rapidly changing future.

Most gratefully,

Michael Dougherty
