Karen McLeod is truly a person for and with others, who exemplifies all the best characteristics of cura personalis. She cares for each individual she encounters every day—especially our students.
Mrs. McLeod began her career at Gonzaga Prep teaching Theology. The day we interviewed her we knew that Gonzaga Prep would greatly benefit from her grace, deep faith, and calm demeanor. And since that time, Mrs. McLeod has served as the Chair of the Theology department, the coordinator of adult Ignatian formation, and currently as the Dean of Students and ASB moderator. She keeps saying “yes,” and we are grateful!
In the words of her colleagues:
Karen is a consummate professional - who models for both her students and colleagues the Jesuit ideal of excellence. Karen's ability to live out cura personalis is unmatched. In some of the most difficult times for our students, she continues to love each student for who they are. She continues to be an inspiration to not only our students but her colleagues as well. She has transformed the Office of Student Life through her faithful commitment to cura personalis for both our students and our faculty
Her department chair said this about Mrs. McLeod:
She inspires with her faith in action whether treating student concerns with dignity and respect, creating and implementing lesson plans that are engaging and thought-provoking, or leading the whole faculty in prayerful and thoughtful Ignatian formation opportunities.
Karen embraces new challenges with a prayerful perspective and an openness to growth and encourages others to do the same—both through the dean’s office and in the classroom.
The school life leaders on the Principal’s Council are blessed and inspired by Karen’s keen insights and observations, genuine integrity, ability to develop and organize new systems, and her natural ability to lead.
Gonzaga Prep is a better place because of Karen McLeod.
