Spring Sports State Championships


TRACK & FIELD

Gonzaga Prep had some outstanding performances at last weekend's State Championships in Tacoma. Nikko Alexander clocked a 48.89 coming from behind in the last 100 meters to win the state title in the 400M. Alexander also placed 4th in the 200M. Boys 4x400 relay (Preston Yim, Nikko Alexander, Henry Mudd, Alexander Scott) reached the podium, earning 7th place with a time of 3:26.47. Ayla Cornwall topped the girls performances, winning 3rd in the triple jump with a jump of 37'0¾". Karolina Flanagan cleared 5'2" for 7th place in the high jump, and Kaylin McMahon placed 7th in the long jump at 17'0¼". The girls 4x200 relay (Cornwall, Hannah Boyum, Kaylin McMahon, and Olivia McIntyre) placed 7th with a time of 1:44.64.

BASEBALL
Bullpup baseball advanced to the state quarterfinals before bowing out on Saturday. Luke Brown pitched in all 6 innings, giving up just 3 runs against top-ranked Richland on six hits, striking out five and walking two. Anthony Karis led the team with two hits. In their 6-4 win over Kentridge earlier in the day, Luke and Mikey Funaro each drove in 2 runs on top of Connor Wood's incredible performance on the mound. Their top-8 finish was the team's first appearance at State since 2016.

GOLF
The boys golf team climbed three spots on the second day of play to clinch a 4th-place finish at the 4A State tournament at Indian Canyon Golf Course. Johnny Doree led the way with a 1-under 70 to place 10th. John Malsam tied for 19th, and Dillon Schrock tied for 23rd. Lisette Durkin (78-159) tied for eighth among girls at the Creek at Qualchan Golf Course.
